Backpacking

My time at Dune Lakes Lodge is over now and because my plans with Costa Rica didn’t work out I’ll stay longer here in New Zealand.
I’m on the other side of the world now, I think I couldn’t be further away from Germany. So I think it makes sense to not rush on and go to my next host, but have a look around these islands. Travel and experience New Zealand from the touristic perspective. When will I have the next chance to come here?
So this part of my journey will be completely different to everything else I’ve done so far. I’m not alone. I’ll travel with Jan-Filip, a friend of mine from Germany. After 5 months of not seeing anyone from home, seeing him felt weird. Seeing a familiar face on the other side of the world. After both of us have traveled on different continents we meet here, on the other side of the world. Of course, we planned it, but still, it’s kind of crazy!
I’m not alone, I don’t have to do everything alone, but I also can’t dive into the experience as deep as when I’m alone.
And I won’t have horses around me. No horses!!! How am I gonna survive that??? For 6 weeks or so! But I chose it. I chose it because I think it’s important to 1. take a break from horses so that they always stay something special (well actually, after 5 month of talking and thinking of nothing else but horses I still love them the same. But maybe I’ll appreciate them even more afterwards) and 2. it’s important to find out who I am without horses. I can’t build my whole self on horses. I can’t only define myself through horses. What if the horse part of my life will fall away one day? Then my whole life would fall apart...
And last but not least: I’m not gonna stay with a host. I’m gonna travel. I’m gonna backpack. Live in hostels and move on every few days. I think that is what so many people do when they say they are “traveling”. So it’s probably good to experience that, too.
